Chatterjee Jyotish ("we", "us", "our") is operated by the studio of Dr. S.S. Chatterjee, New Delhi, India. We take your privacy seriously — particularly because the information you share with us, such as your birth details, is personal. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the rights you have over it.

1. What we collect
We collect only what we need to prepare your reading and run your account:
- Identity & contact: your name, email address, and phone number.
- Birth details: your date, time, and place of birth, and any context you choose to share with your question. We treat these as sensitive and handle them with extra care.
- Your question(s): the text you submit when you request a reading.
- Payment information: processed by our payment gateway. We receive confirmation of payment but do not store your full card or UPI details.
- Usage data: basic, privacy-respecting analytics about how the site is used, so we can improve it.
2. How we use it
- To prepare, write, and deliver your reading.
- To create and manage your account and order history.
- To respond to you, including follow-up questions and support.
- To process payments and issue refunds.
- To send you service messages about your readings (you can opt out of marketing separately).
- To meet our legal and accounting obligations.
We do not use your birth details or questions to train public AI models, and we never sell your personal data.
3. Our legal basis
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we process your personal data on the basis of the consent you give when you create an account and request a reading, and for the legitimate purposes necessary to provide the service you have asked for. You may withdraw consent at any time (see Your rights).
4. Who we share it with
We share the minimum necessary with trusted service providers ("Data Processors") who help us run the service, under contract and only for that purpose:
- Payment gateway — to process your payment securely.
- Cloud hosting & storage — to store your account and readings securely.
- Communication tools — to email or message you about your reading.
We may disclose data if required by law, or to protect our rights and the safety of others. We do not sell or rent your data to anyone, ever.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your account and readings for as long as your account is active, so you can return to them. If you close your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 90 days, except where we are legally required to retain certain records (for example, tax and transaction records).
6. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct or update inaccurate data.
- Request erasure of your data.
- Withdraw your consent at any time.
- Nominate another person to exercise your rights in the event of death or incapacity.
- Raise a grievance with our Data Protection / Grievance Officer.

7. How we protect it
We use encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers to keep your data safe. Access to birth details and readings within our studio is limited to the people who need it to prepare your reading. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect what you share.
